Chapter Twenty-One
Drew
“I changed my mind,” Ollie remarked, coming up for air. We were intertwined on the long sofa, kissing, me naked and Ollie still dressed. I should have known something was wrong for him to still be dressed. As sweet as his kisses were, they had also come across as distracted.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I asked, shifting on the couch and settling him beside me. The couch protested beneath our combined weight. “You’ve been so excited to go to Stonewell and discover your passion.”
“Most students go in already knowing what goal they are pursuing,” he grumbled.
“There’s nothing wrong with being unique.” I clipped him under the chin and raised his head so he couldn’t avoid looking at me. “Tomorrow is going to be your day. You’ve been looking forward to it. Now tell me what’s truly wrong. What’s the real reason you’re getting cold feet?”
He tucked his face into my chest and wrapped his arms around my neck. Without him saying it, I knew. A lump formed in my throat. I loved him more than my own life. He didn’t want to go because of me. A part of me felt smug that he wanted to stay with me, but I couldn’t capitalize on this moment. He deserved to put himself out there in the world and see what it had to offer. Only then would I truly feel comfortable that he had explored his options and still wanted me. I didn’t want him to settle for me because the pickings in Lacovia were slim, or because I was the first man he willingly had sex with.
“I don’t want to leave you.” His tone was sulky and sad.
“Ah, baby.” I kissed his hair. “I don’t want you to leave either. I’ll miss you, but we’ve made some pretty terrific memories to last us for the times we are apart.”
“It’s not gonna be the same.”
“Come on. You have to promise me you'll be happy when you're there or you'll make me worry."
He raised his head, placed his hands on my chest and his chin on them. His eyes were shy but hopeful. “You promise you’ll come by to see me?”
“I’ll see what I can do.”
His lips shot out in a pout. “Why can’t you just say yes?”
“Because you might not want me to visit you once you’re there.”
His pout turned into a scowl. “That’s not gonna happen. I want to see you as often as I can.”
“Let’s just go with the flow of things, Ollie.”
He sat up on the couch, his back to me. He had on a loose shirt with only a few of the buttons still done. I couldn’t resist wrapping my arms around his waist, hands traveling up under his shirt to reach his nipples. He moaned and leaned back against me.
“You gonna be fucking anyone else while I’m not here, Drew?” he asked on a whisper.
I pressed my lips to his neck with a groan. I wished I could express with words just how much I wanted him, how much he meant to me, and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
